WDA Principal and Commercial Practice, Leader David K. Plotkin, recently completed Leadership San Francisco, a program devoted to developing community trustees who will “make a significant contribution to strengthen and transform our community.”  His passion for sustainable architecture and supporting non-profits devoted to community improvement made him a natural fit for the program.

Each year, Leadership SF selects a group of approximately 70 professionals across a variety of  local industry sectors, including private, public and non-profit, to complete an intensive ten-month program. The class is designed to enhance their understanding of living and working in San Francisco, encouraging them to take action and build a better community. David and his fellow LSF members chose to explore and present on the issues of Transportation, Housing, Multi-Sector Partnerships, Workforce and Economic Development, Homelessness, Urban Planning and Development, San Francisco Government, and Education.

David appreciates how LSF immersed his class in various aspects of overarching regional concerns, as well as all the unseen work being done to address complicated issues including homelessness. As a thought leader in architecture that humanizes public service spaces, David was also heartened to tour San Francisco government facilities with airy, warm and welcoming program environments. But perhaps what surprised him most about the program was the synergy his class developed: “I was struck by how LSF was designed to quickly break down barriers for this amazing group, even after we’d just met.”

David closely values his new network and looks forward to keeping in touch with his classmates socially and professionally through future alumni projects. He hopes to give back to future LSF classes by returning as a class adviser, and continue to engage as an active community trustee. Whether working on public agency or private projects, the knowledge he gained at LSF will help to build a better city and experience for its inhabitants and for future generations.

Congratulations David and the Leadership San Francisco Class of 2019 and thank you for your service to our community!
