What do a bird house and purple ice have in common? Not to be confused with robots, these are chairs in disguise! As participants in Chairity 2019, we used our design skills to give back to our community. In this annual event hosted by Two, designers take a used chair and transform it into something new, and Chairity auctions it off with proceeds going towards local non-profits. Together with the other firms, our chairs raised over $100,000. The money, marked for ending youth homelessness and painting schools, went to Larkin Street Youth Services and Project Color Corps.
Feeling extra inspired, we took on two chairs. Starting with a folding orchestra seat, our Bird House team re-purposed their chair, with music in mind, into a new home for a song bird. For Purple Ice, old meets new in their contemporary re-imagining of the classic Louis chair through a bold expression of color and a sleek resin seat. Check out the video for the full transformation.
