Who does a people-centered work culture benefit? Everyone! The San Francisco Business Times’ “Best Places to Work” list honors those companies who put employee satisfaction at the center of what they do. The construction industry is among those who practice this best, so we asked Fran O’Sullivan, Vice President & CFO of Dome Construction, a few questions about her experience and ambitions as a leader in the field.
Join us for a panel discussion, moderated by our founder, William Duff, at AIA San Francisco on February 26 to learn more from three local construction industry leaders on the benefits of building a people-based practice.
Why did you choose to work in the construction industry?
It chose me. Migrated through my network. I always had an affinity for construction as my father was a residential remodeling contractor.
What advice would you give young girls who are considering careers in construction?
Go for it. It’s an optimistic visionary industry. We get to build things. Seeing the results of our efforts never ceases to amaze me.
Who do you admire, and why?
Women like Katharine Graham, who were firsts. She succeeded in journalism long before women were treated respectfully in the industry.
What would you like your professional legacy to be?
[I want to] mentor a new group of leaders ready for a world where success will require the ability to learn continuously.
What’s it going to take for Dome Construction to be at #1 on the Best Places to Work list?
We have set some stretch goals and we will have to work together strategically and with great effort to realize them.
