Congratulations to Project Manager Dustin Foster o Congratulations to Project Manager Dustin Foster on 4 years with WDA! We couldn't be happier to have you on board.

WDA: What’s been your proudest professional moment or accomplishment so far?

DF: The first project I managed from inception through completion which was a residence for a couple on a new piece of property they had long desired. The warmth and satisfaction I felt from the clients while standing in their recently completed home brought a moment of overwhelming pride. The process of taking a client’s vision from imagination to reality is a challenging process full of emotion and expectations. When a group successfully negotiates the peaks and valleys of building a home, it is cause for celebration.

Thank you, Dustin!

This collaborative spirit among client, designer and architect is important, particularly for high-concept destinations, like KAIYŌ Rooftop, the brainchild of Brick x Brick's John Park.

We asked our team to share their wishes for 2021. Whether we're traveling, cooking or creating, all of us wish for more "in-person" time with family and friends. We hope the same for you, and wish you a safe and happy holidays!
We are proud to announce that we placed #11 on the San Francisco Business Times Best Places to Work List – Smallest Companies and are the only architecture firm on the entire list! To celebrate our placement we created a video series called Q+A with WDA – check out the kickoff video here!

As participants in Chairity 2019, we used our design skills to give back to our community. We took two used chairs and transformed them into something completely new; they were then auctioned off, with proceeds benefiting local non-profits. Here's a look at the transformation of both chairs.

Inspired by the iconic Painted Ladies of Alamo Square we hand-built three Victorian’s at a fraction of the cost for our holiday video. Our sugar-coated interpretations feature unique façades, twinkly lights and plenty of holiday cheer!

As architects, our tools often feel like an extension of ourselves. Here we show a playful take on what we do and how through a cast of otherwise inanimate objects. Check out the video to see what makes us tick, beyond coffee and darts!

The crisp, pure sunlight of California’s wine region sparked the concept for this century-old former hay barn–a contemplation on light–while the context of the surrounding vineyards and site-specific art installations challenged us to provocatively transform the structure for uses including community gatherings, family dinners, and fitness. The barn’s wood-slatted shell screens sunbeams, creating ever-changing patterns on the new concrete floors. Internal illumination turns the barn into a lantern at night. Two new opposing glass volumes with mirrored-walls reflect both the spaces within, as well as the outdoors. Standing in the space, you feel an expansiveness as the reflective interior yields to the infinite views of the surrounding vineyards, gardens, old-growth trees, and wildlife beyond the barn walls.

For our inaugural SF Design Week event, we invited design lovers to join us for coffee and bagels, and promised to answer to all their burning questions about architecture. Our partner and principal Jim Westover talked about office culture, projects and opportunities. And job captains Parvathy Nair and Gustavo Bermudez shared advances in tech with 3D printer and 360° demos. Check out the video for an insider’s view!
