We are rounding out #WomensHistoryMonth with our fantastic Job Captains, Glorimar, Mary Bray, Parvathy and Michelle! We asked them a question each, about design or otherwise - read on to see what they had to say:
Glorimar: What's your perfect meal? Pancakes with a side of bacon, a cup of fruit and a latte.
Mary Bray: If you were stuck on a desert island, which one design item would you have? X-acto knife. It’s definitely the most useful survival design tool. I could use it to create writing tools and paper, but also to eat!
Parvathy: Favorite designer or architect? Mies Van der Rohe. His design principles are timeless, and I constantly use his work for inspiration or case studies.
Michelle: What’s your favorite work of design? The 2011 Alexander McQueen exhibition at The Met. [I loved the] inspiring exhibition design with spatial experiences that highlighted the fashion and the architecture. ... See MoreSee Less
I would tie this all together with a timeless clean stack of pancakes that would be cut with a X-acto knife sitting in the cafeteria of Met.
March marks a work anniversary for two of our job captains, Parvathy and Mary Bray. Parvathy is celebrating four years with us, and Mary Bray one year! Thanks for all you do - we are so glad to have you both as valued members of the WDA team! #WDArch_People #WDArch_Culture ... See MoreSee Less
Did you know? More than half of our staff here at WDA are women! We are continuing our celebration of #WomensHistoryMonth - today the spotlight shines on our Designers. Read on for their answers to our rapid-fire architecture and design questions.
Katerina Leung: What’s been your proudest professional moment or accomplishment so far? Designing and building a piece of furniture during my last year in college. It’s an interactive piece that can also be used as a coffee table.
Alex Croft: What is your dream project? A contemporary art museum or gallery - controlling light in various ways to showcase and preserve art is interesting to me and provides a lot of strategies to explore.
Clair Ryu: What’s your favorite work of design you wish you could have done? Maison de Verre. This building pushes the limits to what one material is capable of achieving both functionally and aesthetically.
Taylor Dempsey: Favorite designer or architect? Zaha Hadid. As a leading female architect I find her work inspiring especially how she pushed the boundaries of form. ... See MoreSee Less
