Eater San Francisco featured our project Kaiyo Restaurant. This is a summary of the article, A New SoMa Restaurant Hopes to Be the Crown Jewel of San Francisco’s Nikkei Dining Scene, by Lauren Saria:
“These days, Nikkei cuisine has planted firm roots in San Francisco. But in 2018, when restaurateur John Park first rolled out a menu of scallop tiradito and powerful pisco-based cocktails at Cow Hollow’s Kaiyo, diners weren’t quite so familiar with the bold amalgamation of Japanese and Peruvian cuisines. In the intervening years, he’s not only turned that restaurant into a Union Street staple but also expanded his Nikkei empire with a tropical rooftop cocktail oasis just a few blocks from Oracle Park.
…the design at the new Kaiyo Restaurant and Bar takes the bright, vibrant colors and patterns seen at the group’s other locations and adds a slightly more elegant twist. The front dining room channels Peruvian design with a layering of patterns on the floor tiles, bar, and booths all set against a lush living wall. But moving through the restaurant toward the back of the space, diners will note the transition to a more Japanese aesthetic including accents of shou sugi ban charred wood. In the private dining room, two large floor-to-ceiling murals from artist Fin DAC depict two women in Japanese-style attire.”
