Matthew’s interest in the built environment began at a young age through his admiration of the buildings his grandfather worked on as an engineer and builder in Peru. Growing up, Matthew excelled in mathematics, fine arts and art history. Architecture was a natural next step.
Matthew earned a Bachelor’s in Architecture at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, where he discovered architecture to be much more than a blend of art and mathematics. His thesis focused on the impact of architecture on culture, arguing that design should provide a stage for cultural practices without prescribing the implicit biases of the designer. A Merit Scholar, Matthew graduated Cum Laude and was named to the Dean’s List and President’s List.
Prior to joining WDA, Matthew held a variety of positions in architecture firms in the United States and Peru. He has worked on multiple project types, with particular focus on single and multi-family residential, always paying close attention to how design responds to the idiosyncrasies of the project, client and site. Outside of work, Matthew enjoys exploring hiking trails and museums, dabbles in guitar, and is always looking for a good book or movie.
