Airport Lounge Design: WDA Featured in Retrofit Magazine’s Transportation Issue

We’re pleased to share that William Duff Architects has been featured in Retrofit Magazine’s March/April 2026 issue, highlighting airport lounge design and other innovative transportation retrofit and modernization projects across the U.S.

This issue brings together a select group of projects redefining how infrastructure can deliver elevated user experiences. We’re proud to be included through our design of the Alaska Airlines Lounge at San Francisco International Airport. Airport hospitality presents a unique challenge: a compressed experience with outsized expectations. Guests may only spend an hour in the space, but expect the comfort, clarity, and quality of a full-service hotel. That demands:

  • Immediate spatial clarity
  • Intuitive, effortless flow
  • High-impact moments delivered with restraint

At WDA, we approach these environments as micro-hospitality ecosystems, where every material, sightline and transition shapes perception and performance.

Our work is grounded in thoughtful detailing, contextual design, and a commitment to spaces that feel both refined and effortless.
