St. Helena Wine Cave
Architecture that pays homage to harvest season in Wine Country.
Confidential
St. Helena, CA
Our winery clients often ask us to accentuate the artistry of the harvest, celebrate the bounty of agricultural production, and honor the unique character of their brand. For the redesigned entry to a St. Helena wine cave, we envisioned a geometric form emerging from the surrounding landscape.
Clean lines seamlessly finished in pre-rusted, no-maintenance COR-TEN steel accentuate the entry’s red patina in the context of the browns and greens of the natural environment. The doors are decorated with large “bolts” that evoke the historic functionality of steel.
At the touch of a button, remote controlled mechanized gears activate and the massive doors slowly part from the center until they disappear and reveal the entry to the cave.
