William Duff Architects (WDA) has been recognized by the San Francisco Business Times as one of the 2025 Fastest-Growing Bay Area Private Companies, ranking number 70 on this year’s list. The annual award honors businesses that have demonstrated exceptional revenue growth between 2022 and 2024.
WDA’s sustained growth has been fueled by a diverse portfolio of private residential and high-profile hospitality projects, including the Alaska Airlines T1 Lounge and the Air France–KLM Lounge at San Francisco International Airport. Building on this success, the firm is planning to expand its reach into new geographies, including Seattle, Los Angeles and Park City.
Recent years have also brought industry recognition and leadership milestones. Founder William Duff, FAIA, achieved Fellowship in the American Institute of Architects—one of the profession’s highest honors. The Alaska Airlines Lounge, designed to LEED standards, received the Health & Wellbeing Award from USGBC California at the California Green Building Awards. To mark its 25th anniversary, WDA unveiled a refreshed brand identity, including a new logo and website—recognized with an Award of Merit at the SMPS Topaz Awards.
“It’s been a successful couple of years,” said William. “We’ve had the opportunity to partner with incredible clients and deliver projects we’re deeply proud of. Our growth also reflects the strength of our expanding team and the vision we share for the firm’s next chapter.”
Earlier this year, WDA welcomed Patrick Kruger as Hospitality Practice Leader, bringing over 30 years of global experience in hospitality and resort design. Kruger’s appointment supports the firm’s continued growth in boutique hospitality and resort lodging, complementing WDA’s established expertise in restaurants, wineries, airport lounges, and amenities.
In 2023, Sarah Mergy, Director of Business Development and Marketing, joined WDA’s ownership group. Since joining the firm in 2019, Mergy has elevated the firm’s market presence and client engagement, securing key relationships with brands such as United Airlines, Alaska Airlines, and Super Duper.
“This recognition underscores our belief that thoughtful design and meaningful relationships drive long-term success,” said Duff. “We’re excited to continue building on our momentum—expanding our reach, growing our team, and enhancing the positive impact our work has on the communities we serve.”
